Tinubu Pledges Inclusive Growth, Improved Security in 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged that 2026 will usher in a new phase of inclusive economic growth and improved national security as part of his administration’s ongoing reform agenda. This commitment was made during his 2026 New Year’s address to Nigerians, in which he outlined key priorities for the coming year.

In his national broadcast, Tinubu said that the reforms implemented in 2025, including fiscal and monetary measures, had begun to stabilise core economic indicators such as inflation, foreign exchange buffers, and GDP growth. He expressed confidence that these gains will be consolidated and expanded in 2026 to benefit all Nigerians, regardless of region or background.

“We are mindful that economic progress must be accompanied by security and peace,” the President said, reaffirming his belief that the two go hand‑in‑hand. Tinubu noted that infrastructure development, agricultural productivity, and human capital investment remain vital components of his inclusive growth strategy, which he insists will leave no Nigerian behind.

To support this vision, the 2026 federal budget, recently presented to the National Assembly, prioritises security, education, health, and infrastructure, with defence and security allocated a significant share of resources. Authorities also highlighted the planned overhaul of the country’s national security architecture, emphasising modernised intelligence‑led operations and a new counterterrorism doctrine.

Tinubu’s economic outlook aligns with projections from the Central Bank of Nigeria, which forecasts continued GDP growth and easing inflation in 2026 developments officials say are foundations for sustainable and inclusive prosperity.

Despite ongoing challenges, including persistent insecurities raised by critics, Tinubu insisted that stronger international collaboration and deeper internal reforms will help protect citizens and support Nigeria’s broader development objectives.
