Meet Nentawe Yilwatda, APC’s New National Chairman – 5 Things To Know

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda has taken over as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje in June 2025. His appointment was ratified during Thursday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Here are five key facts about the new APC helmsman:

1. From Plateau, Born in 1968
Yilwatda was born on 8 August 1968 in Plateau State. He’s a seasoned academic, politician, and engineer.

2. Former Minister Under Tinubu
Before his new role, he served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, replacing Betta Edu in October 2024 after her suspension.

3. APC Governorship Candidate in 2023
He was the APC’s governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 general elections.

4. INEC Commissioner in Benue
Between 2017 and 2021, Yilwatda was the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue State under INEC.

5. ICT Expert in Academia
He worked for 12 years as the Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, bringing strong digital and managerial expertise to his new position.
