Shettima Arrives London To Accompany Buhari’s Remains Back To Nigeria

Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in London, where he is set to accompany the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria for burial.

Shettima departed Nigeria at midnight on Sunday and arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday morning. He was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuff Tuggar; Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

President Bola Tinubu had dispatched the Vice President aboard the presidential air fleet with the mandate to convey Buhari’s body home, following news of his death.

The former president had been hospitalised in the UK for a prolonged illness before passing away quietly on Sunday at about 4:30 pm.

Buhari’s remains are expected in Nigeria later today (Monday) for final burial rites, which will receive full honours from the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to deliberate on the government’s role and participation in the burial arrangements.
