OBOKUN STUDENTS’ UNION URGES GOVERMENT TO MODERNIZE EDUCATION FOR GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS.

The Obokun Students’ Union (OBSU) has called on governments at all levels to prioritize the modernization of education in Nigeria, aligning curricula and teaching methods with global standards. This call was made by OBSU President Comrade Awosina Kehinde Johnson during the union’s annual OBSU EDU-CULTURE DAY, a celebration of unity, culture, and knowledge within Obokun Local Government.

The event, themed “Obokun Students as Ambassadors of Sustainable Development Through Unity, Culture, and Knowledge,” served as a platform for the OBSU to advocate for critical improvements in the education sector. Comrade Awosina Kehinde Johnson emphasized the urgent need to update the curriculum at both the primary and secondary levels, emphasizing that Nigeria must keep pace with the rapidly evolving global landscape.

The OBSU President stressed the importance of prioritizing practical skills and hands-on learning in schools. He argued that students completing their O’Levels should possess the skills and knowledge necessary to support themselves and navigate life’s challenges effectively. By equipping students with practical abilities, the education system can contribute to greater self-reliance and economic empowerment.

Comrade Awosina Kehinde Johnson also highlighted the need to address the welfare of students in higher institutions from Obokun Local Government. He advocated for increased access to bursaries and other financial aid programs to make education more affordable and accessible for all deserving students.

During the event, the Obokun Students’ Union presented awards to numerous individuals who have made significant contributions to enhancing quality education and fostering community development within Obokun Local Government. Honorees included Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, Hon Busayo Oluwole Oke, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, Barr. Samuel Sola Agbeluyi, Hon. Francis Olajire Agboola, Hon. Adekunle Adeoti, Amb. Dr Olatunji Awodiran, Hon. Olatunbosun Tolulope, Hon. Ms Oluwatoyin Babaniyi, HRM Oba Festus Kayode Awogboro, Pastor Oyedeji Olu- Kehinde, Barr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, Engr Babalola Obisesan, Mr Adeboyejo Ajibola, Hon. Raphael ELEBUTE, Hon. Folahan Samuel Adeniyi, Hon Akin Omidiji, Hon. Olasiji Olamijulo, Hon Below Saliu Bamidele, Hon Ms Eniola Omotosho, and Mr Gbenga Falope.
