A 49-year-old man, Fasasi Azeez, in Offa local government area of Kwara State, has died in a desperate attempt to rescue his son, Kaleed, who mistakenly fell into a deep well.
Vanguard Correspondent reliably gathered that the son, Kaleed, was fetching water from a deep domestic well on Thursday evening when his legs mistakenly slipped and he fell into the well.
The alarmed father, Fasasi, in a desperate attempt to rescue his son, jumped into the well.
The son was eventually rescued alive, while the father was brought out of the well by officers of the state fire service.
Spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Hakeem Olakunle, who confirmed the development in a statement made available to journalists in Ilorin on Friday, urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and desist from sending under-aged children to fetch water in domestic wells.
According to the report, the victim (a boy) went to fetch water from a domestic well, and during the process of fetching water, one of his legs suddenly slipped off the ground and eventually tumbled down into the well. Before the arrival of the fire service, his father, who was trying to rescue the victim, had his legs suddenly slip off the ground in the process and eventually tumble down into the well too.
The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed his sadness over the incident and urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities. They should desist from sending underage children to fetch water in domestic wells.
